Weston 10U Team Champs!

Weston Racquet Club’s own Weston Wildcats 10 & Under Tennis Team earned the coveted Gold Plate as they won the Connecticut State Tennis Tournament held at East Shore Park and Conard High School in West Hartford August 8-9.

"I am so proud of the way that our team focused on having the most fun, displaying sportsmanship at every opportunity and enjoying the process, which led to our victory," said Weston director of tennis Angelo A. Rossetti.

The Weston Wildcats - Prem Dave, Olivia Wen, Vivian Wen, Alexander Visser and Spencer Chandlee - were undefeated and didn't lose a set until the finals against Shippan Racquet Club. On the first day of competition, the team swept New Haven, Milford and Tennis Central. Matches were composed of 6-game short sets, which means that there was no-ad scoring and at 5-5 a tiebreak was played.

Last summer, this same Weston team was crowned State Champs in the 8 and under division. Aging up a division, this makes it two in a row for the Weston juniors. The Wildcats were undefeated the entire fall and winter seasons, compiling an impressive 14-0 record under Weston Racquet coach Alex Kantarelis.

"The competition was extremely tough both years that we won the states, in the 8s last year and the 10s this year," said Warren Wen, father of Olivia and Vivian.

Olivia Wen was the only undefeated player, posting a 5-0 record, followed by her fraternal twin sister Vivian placing a 4-1 record - the same record as Spencer Chandlee and Alex Visser. Prem Dave also only had one loss. As a team, these Weston juniors worked extremely hard in honing their tennis skills and strategies, as well as being role models of sportsmanship.

Weston Racquet Club had four (4) junior teams that qualified for states, including two 18 and under teams.  Weston’s own Sarah Greisman in the 18 and under division took home the state Sportsmanship Award.

“We’re very proud of all our teams here at Weston Racquet Club,” said Rossetti. “There is a lot of energy and enthusiasm in our tennis programs, and it’s really great to see our juniors triumph, not only at the club level, but at the state level competitions.”
