Weston Racquet Club 10U Team Wins Silver at State Championships
Weston Racquet Club's 10 and Under Tennis Team won silver this past weekend (August 20-21) taking second place in the Connecticut State Junior Tennis Championships held at East Shore Park in New Haven. Weston's own Noah Wolff, Izabela Pauliny, Andy Toft and Zach Gorin made up the undefeated team from Weston Racquet Club that went into Sunday's final match against Farmington Valley. On Saturday, the Weston team posted wins over teams from New Haven (New HYTE's X-Team Lightning) and Norwalk (Norwalk Super Stars) that placed them in the championship final match against Farmington Valley on Sunday.
This was Weston Racquet Club's sixth appearance in the annual junior State Championship final - Weston Racquet Club's USTA Junior Tennis Teams have won six State Championships in six years in different age groups. Weston Racquets Club's entire 2016 10U team players included Noah Wolff, Izabela Pauliny, Andy Toft, Zach Gorin, Casey Bag, Jack Kendall, Jack Schwartz and Jacob Ceisler. The 2016 team was coached by WRC Tennis Professional Vanessa Pardo.
"I'm so proud of our kids and the way they played this weekend," said Angelo A. Rossetti, Weston Racquet Club's Tennis Director. "The competition was tough, and our players gave 110%. Even in battling the heat and humidity, they did a great job and should be proud of their accomplishments."
The State Tournament matches for the 10U teams are composed of 4-game short sets; they use no-ad scoring and if the score reaches 3-3, a tiebreak is played (up to 5 points). The championship match came down to a tie break. Weston Racquet had a championship point, but could not pull out the win. A highlight in the day was in the singles match between Weston's Noah Wolff and Farmington's Kaya Moe where the two players posted an incredible 150-ball rally, which Wolff won.
Weston Racquet Club also had teams in the 14s and 16s age divisions that qualified for the State tournament. Weston Racquet's Spencer Quinn, who played on both the 14 and 16 age division teams, received the Tournament's Sportsmanship Award.
